4 Healthy Easter Treats

Everyone talks about how easy it is to go overboard at Christmas time but people always forget that it’s just as easy to go mad at Easter. Unfortunately, our calendar is peppered with holidays that encourage us to gorge on unhealthy treats.

As everyone knows, Easter is all about chocolate. Chocolate eggs, chocolate rabbits, chocolate just about everything, right? But it’s more than just eating chocolate. The feeling of bingeing on chocolate at Easter is so much better than at Christmas or Thanksgiving because most of us have just given up something delicious for lent. You’ve earned this chocolate.

But, why undo all the good work you did over lent? These healthy treats will let you enjoy Easter without piling on the calories and guilt that come with a dozen chocolate Easter eggs. Bikini season is just around the corner after all.

Fruit and Nut Bunnies

Sometimes it’s not the chocolate that makes an Easter treat so good, but the fact that it is shaped like a bunny. However old you are, the novelty of an edible bunny never goes. Grab yourself a big bowl of fruit (fresh, dried or both) as well as a selection of nuts and start chopping. Once everything is in chunks, get creative and see if you can shape your fruit and nuts into a bunny. The kids will love this. After you’ve completed your masterpiece, reward yourself by scoffing it all.

Easter Kebab Sticks

Easter kebab sticks are easy to make and look great once they are done. Grab some soft fruits – melon, grapes and berries work well for this. Skewer a few pieces of fruit and then add a little bunny shaped marshmallow to the stick. Then, skewer a few more pieces of fruit to finish it off. Make a big batch of kebab sticks and lay them out on a tray for the whole family to enjoy. The trick is to make sure the marshmallow is in the middle so that you have to eat the fruit to get to the candy. Sneaky, but effective.

Easter Yoghurt Bark

Don’t worry, it’s not actual bark – nor does it look or taste like bark. This fabulously delicious Easter treat is healthy and only requires five ingredients: Greek yoghurt, honey, coconut water, pomegranate seeds and blueberries. Blend up the blueberries and coconut water into a compote and, in a separate bowl, mix together the yoghurt and honey. Then, pour the yoghurt mixture onto a tray and drizzle the blueberry puree on top. Finally, sprinkle pomegranate seeds and blueberries on top and freeze. The swirly pink and blue colours are perfect for Easter!

Strawberry Carrots

Ok, so the name is a little confusing but all will become clear. Carrots are usually associated with Easter because they are thought to be the favourite treat of bunnies. Unfortunately, carrots are not very exciting treats – especially not when everyone else is eating chocolate. But, what if you ate something that looked like a carrot but wasn’t a carrot but was still reasonably healthy? Bingo. This recipe involves dipping strawberries in orange yoghurt, or Greek yoghurt tinged with orange food colouring. Pop them in the freezer to set and enjoy!
